Rev. Mary Kay Totty

Rev. Mary Kay TottyRev. Mary Kay Totty has served in United Methodist parish ministry for more than 20 years.

She received her BA from Louisiana State University and an M.Div. from Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University. She has participated with the General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns, the Methodist Federation for Social Action, Zimbabwe Pastors School, and currently, the Board of Ordained Ministry.

Currently, she serves as the appointed pastor of Dumbarton United Methodist Church, a congregation known for advocacy on many social justice issues.

When marriage equality became law in the District of Columbia, Rev. Totty said, "Recognizing such marriages is a logical step for my 238-year-old congregation. In 1987, seeking to open our hearts, minds and doors, we publicly welcomed lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their families into full participation in the life and ministries of the congregation and we continue to do so today. We rejoice that at this point in history, the arc of justice now bends toward equal recognition of marriage for all couples."
