As our churches struggle for justice, fairness, and equality for all members of society, especially those who are marginalized; and
As our own gay and lesbian members and their families are discriminated against and unprotected in many challenging areas, including health care, taxation, housing, employment, and education, and are frequent victims of vicious bullying and violence; and
In the context of a referendum that honors all Maryland families while protecting religious liberty;
We recognize, as brother and sister clergy, that we have differences of opinions, biblical perspectives, and theological understandings.
We therefore pledge to engage in respectful and loving dialogue –
to remain godly in our speaking, demonstrating our respect for differences and love for one another in Christ.
